When the smallest thing causes the biggest reaction…
Your child was fine and then suddenly, they weren’t.
The wrong-coloured cup. A sibling looking at them “funny.” Being asked to turn off the screen, put on their shoes or simply come to the table.
Within moments, everything has exploded.
You try to stay calm. You offer reassurance. You explain. You hold the boundary. You give them space. You try everything.
And somehow, whatever you do seems to make things worse.
Meanwhile, everyone else in the house is retreating, reacting or walking on eggshells, and you’re desperately trying to work out whether your child needs comfort, space, firmer boundaries or something else entirely.
Then, when the storm has passed, comes the fallout.
Perhaps your child feels ashamed or upset. Perhaps they carry on as though nothing happened, while you are left replaying it in your head:
Did I handle that completely wrong?
Should I have noticed it building sooner?
Why does this keep happening in our family?
What am I supposed to do next time?
You love your child more than anything.
You know your child isn’t choosing to become this overwhelmed, but that doesn’t make it any easier to know what will help when emotions take over.
Imagine feeling more prepared when a big reaction begins
Not because difficult moments will disappear overnight, or because anyone expects your child to be calm all the time.
But because you understand more clearly what is happening beneath the reaction.
You begin to recognise the signs that your child is becoming overwhelmed before they reach boiling point.
Instead of frantically trying five different approaches, you have a clearer idea of what might help, and what is likely to add more fuel to the fire.
You know when to connect, when to reduce the talking, when to give space and how to revisit what happened once everyone feels calmer.
Your child begins to understand their own warning signs too.
Together, you discover regulation tools that feel manageable and realistic for your family, and create a shared plan you can return to when emotions become too big.
You are no longer expected to simply “stay calm” without anyone showing you how.
You feel more confident. More prepared. And a little less alone.
Introducing Big Reactions
Big Reactions is a supportive, practical two-part programme for children aged 7–11 and their parents or carers.
Across two small, face-to-face sessions, you will learn more about what may be happening underneath anger, meltdowns and explosive reactions and discover practical ways to help your child through them.
The first session is for parents only. This gives you the freedom to talk honestly, ask questions and understand the approach without discussing difficult family moments in front of your child.
You will then return for the second session with your child, ready to explore the ideas and tools together in a positive, non-blaming way.
This isn’t about “fixing” your child or teaching them that anger is bad.
It is about helping you both understand what happens when their brain and body become overwhelmed and finding safer, more helpful ways through those moments.
Itinerary
Session One: Understanding Big Reactions
Parents-only workshop
Monday 2 November 2026 at 7pmThis warm and supportive 90-minute session is an opportunity to step away from the intensity of family life, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and understand what may be happening beneath your child’s biggest reactions.
Together, we will explore:
What may be happening underneath your child’s anger or explosive reactions
Why reasoning, questioning and reassurance often fail in the middle of a meltdown
How to recognise triggers and the early signs of overload
What can help during escalation and what can unintentionally make it worse
How to remain a steady presence without abandoning necessary boundaries
Supporting recovery and reconnection after a difficult moment
How to introduce the programme to your child without making them feel blamed or judged
You will also be guided through a gentle nervous-system reset to help release some of the stress you may have been carrying and experience simple regulation techniques for yourself.
Because supporting a child through big reactions can be emotionally and physically exhausting and you deserve support too.
There will also be time to reflect, ask questions and connect with other parents who understand how difficult family life can feel when emotions regularly take over.
Tea and coffee will be available throughout.
Session Two: Discovering What Helps
Parent-and-child workshop
Sunday 8 November 2026 at 10amDuring this practical 90-minute session, you and your child will explore:
What happens inside our brains and bodies when feelings become too big
How to recognise individual warning signs
Different ways the body can release or regulate its energy safely
A selection of calming and regulation tools to experiment with together
How children can begin communicating what they need when they feel overwhelmed
Creating a shared Big Reactions Plan for your family
You will work together as a family throughout the session, with support and guidance from me.
Tea and coffee will be available for parents, with juice and biscuits for the children. Each family will also leave with printed resources to help you continue using what you have learned at home.
“But my child won’t want to talk in a group…”
That’s absolutely fine.
Big Reactions is not group therapy, and your child will never be asked to explain their behaviour or share personal experiences in front of everyone.
There will be:
No expectation to speak in front of the group
No public role-play
No requirement to explain why they are attending
No labelling anyone as “the angry child”
No single “correct” way to participate
Children can speak, write, draw, point, observe or pass.
Most of the activities will be completed privately by parent and child together. Regulation tools will be offered as experiments and choices, not something your child has to perform perfectly.
Because you will have already attended the parents-only session, you will know what to expect and can prepare and reassure your child before they arrive.
What your family will receive
Whichever package you choose, your family will receive:
A 90-minute, face-to-face parents-only workshop
A 90-minute parent-and-child workshop
A maximum group size of six families
Practical emotional-regulation tools to explore together
A guided parent nervous-system reset, with a simple technique you can continue using at home
Printed resources to support you at home
Your own family Big Reactions Plan
Tea and coffee during both workshops
Juice and biscuits for children during the parent-and-child workshop
The programme takes place across two dates so that you can first build your own understanding and confidence before bringing your child into the process.
Choose the level of support that feels right for your family
Big Reactions
£145 per family
Includes both face-to-face workshops, refreshments, printed resources and your family Big Reactions Plan.
Big Reactions & Personal Follow-Up
£220 per family
Includes everything in the core programme, plus a private one-hour online follow-up session with me at the reduced programme rate of £75.
What will we cover in the personal follow-up?
The follow-up will usually take place two to three weeks after the parent-and-child workshop, giving you time to try the tools at home and notice what is and isn’t helping.
During our appointment, we can:
Review how things have been going at home
Explore any difficulties you have encountered
Discuss which tools your child has or hasn’t responded to
Adapt your Big Reactions Plan to suit your family more closely
Consider helpful next steps
You’ll also receive a personal check-in email before our appointment and a summary email after.
The follow-up package is completely optional. The two-part Big Reactions programme is designed to be valuable and complete in its own right.
About Corrina
I’m Corrina Beasley, a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist supporting children, young people and parents with anxiety, emotional regulation, stress reduction, fears, habits and the challenges that can make family life feel overwhelming.
Alongside my private therapy practice, I work within the SEND department of a secondary school, delivering emotional-regulation support to children and young people with a wide range of needs.
My approach is friendly, practical and grounded in an understanding of how our thoughts, emotions, bodies and behaviour influence one another.
I won’t tell you that your child should simply “calm down”or that you should somehow remain endlessly patient while your own nervous system is under siege.
I will help you understand what may be happening and give you practical tools you can begin using together.
What parents say…
“ I Just wanted to drop you a quick message to say THANK YOU! Kids back to school today and I feel like it has been the best summer yet.”
“Highly recommend Corrina. She has a wealth of knowledge across many childhood issues and discusses them in a supportive and accessible way that makes each step of a process feel possible, even in the chaos that can be parenting.”
Big Reactions may be right for your family if…
Your child is aged 7–11
Anger, frustration, meltdowns or explosive reactions are affecting family life
Seemingly small events regularly trigger very big responses
You feel as though you are constantly guessing what your child needs
You want practical tools rather than another parenting theory
You would like to understand what sits beneath your child’s behaviour
Your child could attend a small group when supported by you
You are ready to practise the ideas and tools together at home
This programme may not be suitable if…
Your child needs a high level of individual or specialist support to participate safely
Their behaviour currently presents a significant safety risk to themselves or other people
They would find being in a room with several other families unmanageably distressing
You are seeking diagnosis, crisis intervention or treatment for a specific condition
This doesn’t mean that support isn’t available. It may simply mean that individual work or a different specialist service would suit your child better.
If you’re unsure, please contact me before booking. I’ll be very happy to talk through whether Big Reactions is likely to suit your child.
Helping me get to know your child
After booking through Eventbrite, you’ll be asked to complete a short, confidential form telling me a little about your child, including anything that may help them feel more comfortable during the workshop.
This isn’t a test, and your child doesn’t need a diagnosis to attend. It simply helps me understand any communication, sensory or participation needs and make reasonable preparations before you arrive.
Big Reactions is a small, educational programme rather than group therapy or individual treatment. Although I will make the workshop as flexible and welcoming as possible, a group environment won’t be right for every child.
If the information you provide suggests that your child may need a different level or type of support, I’ll contact you privately to talk it through. If we decide the programme isn’t suitable, you will receive a full refund.
Completion of the form by the date shown in your booking confirmation will be a condition of attendance.
FAQs
-
It can be. Many of the tools explored within Big Reactions, such as body-based regulation, visual prompts, clear language and predictable, repeatable strategies, can be particularly helpful for autistic children and children with ADHD.
My approach is also informed by my work supporting neurodivergent children and young people within a secondary-school SEND department.
However, Big Reactions is a small-group emotional-regulation programme rather than specialist or individually tailored neurodiversity support, so it won’t be the right setting for every child.
The programme is likely to be a good fit if your child:
Can understand simple, age-appropriate explanations about feelings, brains and bodies
Can communicate something about their experiences and preferences, whether through speech, writing, drawing, visual choices or another familiar communication method
Can take part in some activities alongside you, even if they sometimes prefer to watch or pass
Is likely to manage being in a room with several other families when supported by you
Benefits from structure, visuals and clear, repeatable tools
A different or more individualised form of support may be more appropriate if your child:
Would find a small-group environment overwhelmingly distressing
Has sensory or communication needs that would require substantial individual support throughout
Needs a highly personalised behavioural or therapeutic programme
Is currently likely to behave in a way that could present a significant safety risk to themselves or others
Children will not be expected to speak in front of the group or share personal experiences. They can speak, write, draw, point, observe or pass, and most activities will be completed privately with their parent or carer.
After booking, I’ll ask you to complete a short, confidential form to help me understand your child’s communication, sensory and participation needs. If you’re unsure whether Big Reactions will suit your child, please contact me before booking and we can talk it through together.
-
No. Children will never be expected to discuss personal experiences or explain their reactions publicly. They can speak, write, draw, point, observe or pass.
-
No. Big Reactions is a practical, educational programme. Families will learn and experiment with tools together, but nobody will be asked to disclose private experiences to the group.
-
You will attend the first session alone and receive guidance on introducing the programme positively. You will also know what the second session involves, allowing you to prepare your child with confidence. Children will not be expected to perform, share or join every activity.
-
Your family ticket covers one parent or carer attending both workshops with one child. If a second parent or carer would like to attend the parents-only session, please contact me before booking. This may be possible subject to room capacity.
-
Each family place is intended for one child and one accompanying parent or carer so that they can work closely together. If you have more than one child who may benefit, please contact me before booking.
-
You’ll receive your Eventbrite confirmation and a link to the short, confidential getting-to-know-your-child form. Please complete this by the date stated in your confirmation email so that I can prepare appropriately for your family.
If anything you share suggests that the group may not be the right setting for your child, I’ll contact you privately to discuss it. If we agree that a different form of support would be more appropriate, you’ll receive a full refund.
-
Big Reactions has been designed as a two-part programme, with the parent session preparing you and your child for the family workshop. Please only book if you expect to be able to attend both dates. Please check the Eventbrite booking terms for cancellation and transfer arrangements.

You don’t have to keep guessing
Big reactions can leave the whole family feeling overwhelmed, but neither you nor your child is failing.
Your child is not broken.
They may simply need help understanding what happens when their emotions take over, and you may need a clearer, more practical way to support them through it.
Big Reactions gives you the opportunity to pause, understand the pattern and begin developing a shared way forward.
Two supportive sessions. Six families. Practical tools you can use together.
